Currency Exchange and Telephone Calls

Japanese "Yen" is the only currency usually used in Japan .
Especially at small stores, it is strongly recommended to be prepared to pay in Japanese cash.

Although exchange service with most of foreign currencies is available at many banks in Tokyo and some banks in Morioka City, they are open only from Monday through Friday (between 9 a.m. through 3 p.m.). You can not find money exchange at the train stations.

It is recommended to exchange your money at the Narita International Airport upon your arrival.
The exchanging rate of Japanese Yen is currently about 135Yen/US$1.00.

At Hachimantai Royal Hotel, exchange service is not available, either. However, they will accept major credid cards (Visa, Master Card, Amex, DC, etc.) and TC (in Japanese Yen) for your shopping in the Hotel and fax/telephone bills (you have to pay your personal calls from your room and drinks you consume from the refrigerator in your room).

To make phone calls, most convenient and cheap way in Japan is to use telephone cards (500 JPYen or 1,000 JPYen) which can be purchased at many stores or places. There are a number of public telephones which can be used for international calls in the Hotel Lobby.

If you have calling cards of some telephone company, this is the easiest way to make international calls. For example, if you are a user of AT&T Calling Card, call 0039-111 or 0066-55-111. You will receive a recorded English guidance and will be ready to dial your favorite numbers (You have to dial the country code first).
